segment NO 6

theme:   Third mystery of light - The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God

call to prayer & opening prayer: As for the Order Prayers

intention:         “May we be always part of God’s kingdom and bring it to others.”

word of reflection:  Reflect on the reading of the following words of the Pope:

The Mysteries of Light

Another mystery of light is the preaching by which Jesus proclaims the coming of the Kingdom of God, calls to conversion (cf. Mk 1:15) and forgives the sins of all who draw near to him in humble trust (cf. Mk 2: 3-13; Lk 7: 47-48): the inauguration of that ministry of mercy which he continues to exercise until the end of the world, particularly through the Sacrament of Reconciliation which he has entrusted to his Church (cf. Jn 20: 22-23).

Listening to the word of God

In order to supply a Biblical foundation and greater depth to our meditation, it is helpful to follow the announcement of the mystery with the proclamation of a related Biblical passage, long or short, depending on the circumstances. No other words can ever match the efficacy of the inspired word. As we listen, we are certain that this is the word of God, spoken for today and spoken “for me”.

If received in this way, the word of God can become part of the Rosary's methodology of repetition without giving rise to the ennui derived from the simple recollection of something already well known. It is not a matter of recalling information but of allowing God to speak. In certain solemn communal celebrations, this word can be appropriately illustrated by a brief commentary.

Allow a few moments reflective silence

Leader:     The Third Luminous Mystery – The Proclamation of God’s Kingdom. What greater sign of God’s loving mercy than the testimony of forgiveness of sins freely given? The people were scandalized that Christ would forgive sins, and yet amazed when he cured a paralytic, having first forgiven him. The forgiveness combined with the healing are signs of the true identity of the merciful Christ (cf. Mark 2:3-13).

The Word of God is now proclaimed

word of god      The Word of God is now read aloud slowly and prayerfully

The Gospel according to Mark 1: 14-15

Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: "This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the good news."

Brief time of silence then the second scripture text is read.

The Gospel according to John 20: 21-23

Jesus said to them, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."

After a brief time of reflection  the prayer continues:

Leader & all:  Our Father…

Leader:           Jesus has proclaimed the kingdom of God to us, and we have said "yes" to the Good News and "no" to sin. Every moment of our lives, the divine power of the Holy Spirit is with us as we face a broken and sinful world, and every time we get hurt, He asks us to reveal His light by forgiving the sinners and doing good to them in His name.

Leader & all:  Hail Mary  (10 times)

Leader:           For the gift of a merciful heart that shares God’s forgiveness with others, we give praise to God:

Leader & all:  Glory be to the Father…

The meeting proceeds

closing prayers:  As for the Order Prayers at the Closing of the Meeting.
