IACK Council Statement,
Melbourne 2001
Post-Meeting Statement
Leaders
of the member Orders of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights
met in Melbourne, Australia on 12-19 October 2001. Despite the
difficulty of international travel now, this shows the dedication which
the members have to the Alliance and to the Church. The meeting
concluded with Mass where Eamonn Fleming of Ireland installed as his
successor Geoffrey Renner of The Gambia.
The International Council
meeting highlighted:
The role of Catholic Knights as Apostles of the Third Millennium;
·
Reverence of the Holy Name; and
World Peace.
Pope John Paul II has
called on the laity to be Apostles of the Third Millennium. The
International Council urges all members of our Orders to review and
reflect on their personal response through briefing sheets which will be
prepared and distributed. These aids to becoming truly Apostles of the
Third Millennium will be offered to all Catholics through our parishes and
other groupings of the Church.
In the face of everyday
irreverent and inappropriate use of the Holy Name of God and Jesus Christ,
the Alliance encourages all Christians to practise reverent use of these
sacred words. They should also show disapproval of all irreverent or
thoughtless use of the Lord’s Name. A groundswell for the loving, correct
use of the Lord’s Name can address the denigration of Christianity in our
societies.
Terror and killing of
innocent people can never be justified in the name of God. We shall unite
with all people, irrespective of religion, to seek peace in the name of
God.
