"A great way to live"

Incorporation

Southern Cross Homes (NSW) Inc is incorporated under the New South Wales Associations Incorporation Act 1984.

To Care and Share

Southern Cross Homes (NSW) Inc is a Christian, not-for-profit, community service organisation founded by the Knights of the Southern Cross – an order of Catholic laymen.

With the support of Government, Southern Cross Homes (NSW) Inc has been able to help meet the needs of some of today’s older adults – yesterday’s pioneers – by planning, building and providing the management for a network of Lifestyle Villages specially designed for those over 60 years, comprising independent living units, supported living apartments, nursing home and special care cottages. These residential programmes are complemented by wide-ranging Outreach (community) services which enable people to remain living independently for extended periods.

In partnership with our Residents we offer quality support and care in a spirit of Christian love and concern.

Our Mission

To reflect the love of Christ by:

  • promoting an awareness of the value of older people
  • offering them quality accommodation, care and services
  • providing for their comfort and security in a Christian environment
  • facilitating their having lives of dignity and purpose according to individual aspirations and needs.

Our Philosophy

We believe that:

  • The aspirations and needs of older people, who are partnering with us in our residential and community care programs, are of paramount importance.
  • Each person has in her/his own right a particular individual worth - a value assessed separately from her/his usefulness or any contribution she/he may make to society and/or her/his family.
  • Each person should be encouraged and supported to retain their individual rights and manage, to the level possible, their own personal affairs.
  • Each person's dignity and individuality need to be respected, and her/his right to privacy and autonomy safeguarded.
  • Friends and relatives of Residents/Clients should be encouraged to participate, at their discretion, in our services and maintain active communication with our staff and Care Team Managers.
  • Staff should be encouraged and enabled to participate in continuing education and to maintain a personal interest in professional standards and current practices of care.
  • Our support/care services should bear witness to the highest ethical and moral principles.
  • Special care should be taken to recognise and meet the particular needs of those who are terminally ill. Staff are also to be sensitive, and respond to, the needs of their family and friends.
  • The Minister of Religion is an important member of the support/care team.

Our Objectives

We aim to provide quality support, care and services by:

  • creating atmospheres and environments conducive to each person's spiritual, physical, emotional, intellectual and social wellbeing; and
  • observing the highest standards of professional and personal ethics in our work and relationships with Residents, relatives/friends and co-workers.

Funding Arrangements

i) Fortnightly Fees

Independent Living Units
Our maintenance fees are affordable by aged pensioners. They are determined facility by facility by the Residents through our normal budget process involving active consultation with Management.

Residential Care Facilities (Hostels & Nursing Home)
Our fees are set by the Government at 85% of the Age Pension. Where a Resident has non-pension income of more than $58.00 per week then the Government also requires a contribution equal to 25% of that additional income.

ii) Entry Contributions

Independent Living Units
25% of our independent living units are set aside absolutely for those with little or no means. Those people need not make any contribution.

The remaining units are allocated on an individual basis with entry contributions from as low as $50,000.

Supported Living Apartments (Hostels)
We have NO pre-determined, fixed entry contributions. Every prospective Resident is considered individually and arrangements determined that reflect her/his own personal circumstances. Those without means are not required to make a contribution. It must be emphasised, however, that where a Resident does pay us a contribution the maximum amount retained by us is $15,270 over 5 years.

Standards of Care

Our care facilities are subject to regular review by the Aged Care Standards Agency. All facilities were awarded Accreditation for 3 years, which is the highest award possible.

Our Organisation is considered a leader in standards of care by both the Federal and State Governments (refer Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care; NSW Health Department; and, NSW Department of Fair Trading.)
