The most significant project undertaken by the
Knights of the Southern Cross has been that of aged care. In 1966, the Knights decided
that a worthwhile community service would be the provision of accommodation for the care
of aged persons. By late 1970 our first residents were accommodated in single bedroom
independent living units.
With the changing needs and social policies of governments the aged care enterprises have been incorporated as separate organisations in their own State/Territory and these organisations have joined together under the umbrella of Southern Cross
Care (Australia) Inc.
Today they provide aged care in all States and the Australian Capital
Territory ranging from community support through residential units and hostels to nursing
homes.
