FORMATION PROGRAMME

Members of the Order of the Knights of the Southern Cross responded to the suggestion of the late Bishop Phillip Kennedy, a former member of the Order, made at the Plenary Conference of the Order held in Adelaide in 1978, that the Knights of the Southern Cross consider a programme of Christian Formation for its members. These programmes have run continuously since 1981.

In recent years we have devoted our attention to matters which are of vital importance in the formation of a Catholic mind as we face the challenges of a society which has become very secular, anti-life and materialistic.

We have also based programmes on the Sacred Scriptures.

In 1997 we responded to the call of Pope John Paul II for three years of preparation for the Great Jubilee Year 2000 (Apostolic Letter Tertio Millenio Adveniente).
These themes are:

• 1997 – the Year of Jesus Christ

• 1998 – the Year of the Holy Spirit and

• 1999 – the Year of God the Father.

(Each of these are available on this site in Formation 99, Formation 98, Formation 97 and Formation 96. They are freely available for private use; groups should seek permission for their use from the National Executive Officer of the Knights of the Southern Cross, Australia.)

These programmes are held in high regard. Each year we provide the programme to the Catholic Women’s League in Australia and to our kindred Orders throughout the world. We are indebted to our National Chaplains for the excellent standard that has been maintained in the Formation Programmes and for the considered and successful method they have offered for the use of them.
