session NO 1

theme:        “Inspired by the Spirit”

call to prayer & opening prayer:

As for the Order Prayers

focus:

Let it be You, first of all, who inspire our suggestions.”

 (Prayer to the Holy Spirit)

word of reflection

Reflect on the reading of the following words of Pope John Paul II.

Man’s intimate relationship with God in the Holy Spirit also enables him to understand himself, his own humanity, in a new way. Thus that image and likeness of God which man is from his very beginning is fully realised. This intimate truth of the human being has to be continually rediscovered in the light of Christ, who is the prototype of the relationship with God. Along this path – the path of such an inner maturity, which includes the full discovery of the meaning of humanity – God comes close to man, and permeates more and more completely the whole human world.

John Paul II, Dominum et Vivificantem – The Holy Spiorit in the Life of the Church and the World #59

In our own day too, the Spirit is the principal agent of the new evangelisation. Hence it will be important to gain a renewed appreciation of the Spirit as the One who builds the Kingdom of God within the course of history and prepares its full manifestation in Jesus Christ, stirring people’s hearts and quickening in our world the seeds of full salvation which will come at the end of time.

John Paul II, Tertio Millennio Adveniente – The Coming of the Third Millennium #45

Allow a few moments reflective silence, then proclaim the Word of God

word of god

&  The Gospel according to Mark 11: 20-25

The Word of God is now read aloud slowly and prayerfully

Jesus answered him, “They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them. Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me.”

“I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”

$ For the next five minutes silently read and reflect on the readings.

Underline what you  consider to be key words and/or phrases for you.

the sharing

Now bring your insights and reflection around the theme and the Readings into discussion of the following:                                                                                                        (10 mins)

v     What is the most important point in the readings for you and why?

v     What signs do you see that the Spirit is at work in the Church today?

v     How will these reflections and insights be expressed in your life in the next month?

conclusion

Leader:As we conclude this time of reflection, let us give praise to God as we say:

All:      Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

world without end.  Amen.

closing prayers:  As for the Order Prayers at the Closing of the Meeting.
