segment NO 8

theme:        “reaching out”

call to prayer & opening prayer: As for the Order Prayers

focus:                To conduct and support Educational, Charitable,

   Religious and Social Welfare Work.”

 (Objects of the Order 5)

word of reflection

Reflect on the reading of the following words taken from the documents of the Church:

For God, we believe, desires that all people become one family with love for God and neighbour as the basis. We cannot separate these two: whoever loves God must love neighbour or the love is false. Jesus said as much himself. It is obvious how important this is as we come to rely more on each other and grow in unity. So we humans, in order to fully discover ourselves, must donate ourselves to one another in love. This aspect of human nature, the social aspect, suggests strongly that the advance of society depends on individual persons progressing first.

By reason of their special vocation it belongs to the laity to seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and directing them according to God’s will … It pertains to them in a special way so to illuminate and order all temporal things with which they are closely associated that these may always be effected and grow according to Christ and may be to the glory of the Creator and Redeemer.

         Vatican II, Constitution on the Church – Lumen Gentium # 31

            Allow a few moments reflective silence, then proclaim the Word of God

word of god

&  The Gospel according to Matthew 25: 31-46

The Word of God is now read aloud slowly and prayerfully

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,

and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left.

Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.'

Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?

And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?'

And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.'

Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.'

Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?'

Then he will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'

And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

$ For the next five minutes silently read and reflect on the readings.

       Underline what you  consider to be key words and/or phrases for you.

the sharing

Now bring your insights and reflection around the theme and the Readings into discussion of the following:                                                                                                       (10 mins)

v     What are the most pressing educational, charitable, religious and social welfare needs in Australia at this time?

v     How can the KSC conduct and support these works in the future?

conclusion

Leader:         As we conclude this time of reflection, let us give praise to God as we say:

All:                  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

                        as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

world without end.  Amen.

The meeting proceeds

closing prayers:  As for the Order Prayers at the Closing of the Meeting.
